Aku bukan seorang tawanan

Suatu hari Ibnul Qayyim Al-Jauziyah menziarahi gurunya Syeikhul Islam Ibnu Taimiyah yang sedang dipenjara dan difitnah musuh-musuhnya. Melihat keadaan gurunya itu beliau pun menangis.

Ibnu Taimiyah berkata:

“Apakah kamu menangis melihat keadaanku? Demi Allah, wahai anakku, aku bukan seorang tawanan. Sesungguhnya orang yang menjadi tawanan itu sebenarnya adalah orang yang menahan hatinya dari ikatan Tuhannya membiarkan hawa nafsunya menawannya.”

Apabila hidup hanya untuk diri sendiri ...

"Apabila hidup kita hanya untuk kita, hidupnya amatlah singkat. Bermula daripada bermulanya kita, dan berakhir dengan berakhirnya umur kita yang terbatas. Tetapi jika kita hidup kerana selain daripada kita, hidup kerana fikrah, sesungguhnya hidupnya panjang dan mendalam. Bermula daripada bermulanya manusia, dan berakhir dengan luputnya manusia di bumi ini"

Hawa nafsu boleh dilemahkan jika manusia berdisiplin memeranginya. Satu kata kunci untuk kejayaan adalah disiplin. Ia wujud dalam sistem ibadat kita, solat lima waktu dan solat sunat, puasa, haji, zakat dan sedekah. Zikrullah dengan terang ataupun tersembunyi, memelihara al-Quran sentiasa hidup di dalam hati dan melaksanakan sunnah Rasul adalah disiplin. Mengisi masa dengan amal, menguasai dunia demi akhirat memerlukan disiplin yang tinggi.

Ibnu Al-Qayyim pernah berkata:

“Wahai orang yang lemah semangat! Sesungguhnya di atas jalan ini Nuh menjadi tua, Yahya dibunuh, Zakaria digergaji, Muhammad diseksa dan anda pula inginkan Islam datang dengan mudah di bawah kakimu?”

So while it’s good that you’re asking these questions, you can’t truly know how it feels like to be a UofT student until you’re actually here. But just remember that you’re not “locked in” to UofT: you can always transfer to another University (I actually transferred to UofT’s Faculty of Arts and Science after a not-so-great year at Engineering).- aska

This part trigger me. "you can't truly know how it feels until you are actually there" and "happiness lies in your persepctive, hard work, and ability to deal with life". So so true...! huhu
